Mojácar

Without any reservation, Mojacar is timelessly hailed as the most comely and romantic resort town in southeastern Spain. Lined by the Mediterranean Sea, Mojacar is located in the southeastern area of the Province of Almería (Andalucía), in southern Spain. The town, lying on the Coast of Levante, claims that part in Costa Almeria as one of its most picturesque, charming towns.

Of ancient roots, the town of Mojacar has very much retained its Arabic appearance. Distinctively, this is a former Moorish fortress town seated atop a skyscraping crag in the spurs of Sierra Cabrera. Essentially, the spectacular town of Mojacar is an elevated mountain settlement spilling down the sides of a hill, majestically overlooking down on its pristine sandy beaches and the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean. This place is affluent both in drama, history & romance as well as enough space for relaxation and recreation.

The city is a prevailing legacy of the Arabs. As such, the city centre of Mojacar enduringly has a peculiar layout of the same old narrow streets, secluded corners, and terraces that were carved on the side of the very crag as shill as if they were steps. The oVerall theme of Mojacar’s aesthetics is white, the traditional white color from its earlier days under Arab influence. It is a sight to behold - the white-washed houses and structures and cobbled streets of Mojacar. Its curious architecture, then, as well as its fine beaches and the beautiful natural surroundings are Mojacar’s most alluring attractions. In spite of the wear and tear of the centuries that it has been subjected to, the town’s spectacular marvels of engineering has managed to preserve its intactness.

Honeycombed with narrow casbah-like cobbled alleyways, the village centre is high on its many quaint surprises, such as perhaps a Roman fountain pumping fresh spring water and the unusual fortified church of Santa Maria.

Mojacar is reputedly one of the most cosmopolitan points in the whole region. Its natives are named Mojaqueros. In fatc, iconic American cartoonist Walt Disney is said to have been sired here, prior to his emigration with his parents to the United States, and making it big there. The place is a virtual melting pot of diverse cultures. It has been hailed to have, in proportion, the most sorts of foreigners in all of Spain. In its own right, Mojacar has been a sanctuary for the artsy people, what with many writers, painters and photographers making Mojacar their home. Above all, Mojacar is a much renowned tourist destination in the Continent with much credit to its very unusual charm, aesthetically alluring atmosphere and warm hospitality.
