Town history

Roquetas de Mar was once a traditional fishing town, now turned into a world-class popular holiday resort, visited by tourists throughout the year. The old coastal town originates from Roman times. This section of Roquetas is a maze of narrow, Moorish streets, though now flooded by hotels and shops. An enduring legacy of its history still exists, signs of which include the remnants of the tower of Castilla de Santa Ana and in other 16th to 18th century fortifications along the Roquetas coastline.
